Back when Pokémon: The First Movie came out, Nintendo did a massive tie-in with Burger King to not only give out a ton of awesome toys in their kids meals but also sell these little beauties separate with the purchase of a value meal. Basically, they were just cheesy gold-plated cards inside a Pokéball display case but man if I didn’t want them all! I think I had most of them, with the exception of Charizard and Poliwhirl. Yeah, that always weirded me out as a kid. Why was Poliwhirl one of the six chosen to be on a gold card? I understand Pikachu, Togepi, Mewtwo, Jigglypuff and Charizard, all of them were either mascots or important on the show/movie, but Poliwhirl? Years later I found out he was important in the manga but I don’t know, feels like a stretch to me. Either way, these were awesome and I still have the few I had today. I still have the Jigglypuff one. And I didn’t get why Poliwhirl was there, either.  I remember these! I believe I had all of them except for Charizard. Maybe. As for Poliwhirl, it confused me at first as a child why I saw merch of it everywhere. But Poliwhirl is Satoshi Tajiri’s personal favorite. So that must be why. We didn’t get them. Because we’re the UK and we can’t have nice things. oh same ;_; ^^
